Getting the most out of your bathroom vanity storage space

Bathroom vanity cabinet design trends

As bathroom vanity cabinets come in a variety of configurations, getting the most of the storage space they provide is sometimes critical. This is especially true if you have limited space in your bathroom to begin with and only have a small vanity, with limited storage area.

Luckily, with some creative thinking, there are a few ways around the problem.

Vanity storage space ideas

Most vanity cabinets will have shelves behind a set of doors to act as storage. Although shelves are fine in a large vanity cabinet, removing them from a small one can provide you with more storage area. Once you have removed the shelving, you have a larger area to work with.

  • Try varying sized stackable bins as a storage option. These are a cheap as well as an effective way to overcome the plumbing pipes you will find in the cabinet. These stackable bins are available in numerous configurations, so finding one that works for your specific vanity should be a simple task.
  • Place everyday necessities in these containers, including toilet paper, cleaning products or daily care products.
  • Consider containers attached to the doors of your vanity (inside or out) to store even more essentials. These come in a variety of types and are connected to the top of a cabinet door. These can even save more space on the inside of a vanity if your stackable bins are not too long, thus allowing the cabinet door to close properly.
  • A tension rod placed at the top of the vanity cabinet can be used to hang cleaning supplies such as cloths or trigger sprays. Of course, this is only possible if your stackable containers allow.
  • If you do not make use of containers hanging on the cabinet doors, place stick hooks on the inside of the doors to hang your hair dryer or small hand towels.

Other storage options

If you still require more space, consider the following storage options for your bathroom:

  • Floating shelves

Floating shelves are a great way to create storage space using sections of wall that cannot be put to any other use. A floating shelf can be used to store all manner of bathroom goods, although they are probably the best place to put folded towels, out of the way yet easily within reach when needed. Towels take up a massive amount of space in a bathroom vanity and moving them to another area is the best way to free up some space. Another option is to place small floating shelves on either side of the basin of the vanity. Here you can store toiletries and beauty products within easy reach.

  • Shower storage

Use a special stainless steel shower rack to store any toiletries specifically used in the shower, for example, body wash and shampoo. This can free up much-needed space in a smaller vanity.

  • Standalone shelving units

No matter how small your bathroom, there is always some wasted space. Consider placing a standalone shelving unit in this space. They come in a variety of sizes so finding the perfect one shouldn’t be too difficult. Again, this can be used to store anything that does not fit into your vanity cabinet.
