Kitchen Renovation Warranty
When you elect to make a kitchen renovation to your home, it is important to understand what your hard earned renovation dollars are buying you. Aside from beautiful new appliances and immaculate stone surfaces you should make note of the warranties that are provided with all parts, materials and labor that is included in your renovation project and price. It is a good idea to be aware of these warranties as a consumer in general – not just with regard to your kitchen renovation job – as this information will come in very handy in the event of any malfunction or failure of the products/services involved.
There are two main types of warranties and one form of insurance that you should be aware of when choosing to have a kitchen renovation done. They will cover not only materials, but also services and the timelines that they are valid.
Statutory Warranties
These are sometimes called implied warranties and generally tend to be pretty similar from state to state. Statutory warranties refer to the quality of work performed and that all parts, products and materials used are in new or agreed upon condition and that the building or home will be immediately inhabitable upon completion of the project. This is a blanket warranty that will protect the consumer, but sometimes the details agreed upon can be difficult to recall completely and for this reason it is always best to get the specifications of the agreement in writing. These details include model numbers, brands, timelines and any other details you would like adhered to for the project.
Manufacturer’s Warranties
These warranties are generally for the individual products you buy – like appliances – and they are guaranteed according to proper installation. Fititngs and any other equipment used in the installation also falls under this warranty classification. The details of this type of warranty usually outline a period of time the product is protected for, which range from a few months to years, just depends on the company and type of product. Should you encounter a problem with the product, parts or fittings within the timeframe identified in the warranty, you should be able to get it repaired, replaced or refunded without much issue.
Building/Builders Warranty Insurance
This form of warranty or insurance is designed to protect the homeowner in the event that there is a service failure to the contractor’s work and they are no longer available for any number of reasons. This protects the homeowner from incorrect or improper repairs or renovation work. This type of insurance is common and is usually regulated by the government.
Reviewing Your Contract
These common forms of warranty are a good idea to review if you plan to have a contractor like Kitchen and Bath perform your renovation and it is a good idea to review your contract thoroughly before any work begins. These warranties are designed to protect the homeowner from any service failures or inferiorities in the products purchased from the manufacturer and they should all honor the warranty for the agreed upon timeline and provided that the installation and/or use of the product was performed within the guidelines stipulated in the user’s manual or contract.
