It Pays to Be Realistic: Your Bathroom Remodeling Plan

If you are tired of looking at your bathroom and wanting more, then it is time to consider a remodel. Remodeling this space will allow you to add and remove elements that you want or no longer need.

Renovating and remodeling a bathroom is no easy task and one of the hardest steps is being able to identify exactly what it is that you want. When it comes time to plan for your remodel, make sure you take your time and never rush. This cannot be stressed enough. Some homeowners will rush into a decision and then find that they are unhappy with the outcome – don’t do this.

One of the first things you must do when you are renovating your bathroom is to be realistic about the remodel and what you want out of it. Below, we will go over some things to consider and some tips you can use.

Know What You Need

One mistake that some homeowners make is that they do not consider their needs when they are remodeling their bathroom space. Often, homeowners are blinded by the smoke and mirrors of a luxury design or a modern bathroom, but when it comes down to it, these types of bathrooms do not suit you, your home, or your needs.

If you plan to look at some bathroom remodel plans and pictures, try not to fall for the beautiful, flashy ones, as these are not a good representation of what to expect. For instance, you may see a stunning bathroom in a magazine with a standalone tub in it. While you may like this idea, it may not be feasible in your bathroom for a couple of different reasons. First, standalone tubs have special plumbing needs and second, you need to have the space for it.

Consider Your Budget

Bathroom remodels can be expensive and you must factor in all costs including labor and materials. If you are working within a tight budget, it is important that you know how much you have to spend and how much what you want will cost.

Sometimes, it helps to come to a compromise between your wants and budget. For example, you may only have enough within your budget to do a small renovation and add a double sink or you may only have enough to upgrade your fixtures. There are small changes that you can make that will elevate your bathroom space without spending $15,000 or more.

Look at Your Bathroom Objectively

Instead of walking into your bathroom and simply saying get rid of this and that – think from an objective standpoint. For instance, if your bathtub was just re-glazed last year and is still in good condition, do you really need to waste some of your budget remodeling and replacing it?

As you start to think about a bathroom remodel, be realistic about it and your ideas. It helps to keep the above points in mind and when you actually sit down to think about things, you can make an informed decision.
