How to construct a Lazy Susan cabinet

To assemble the Lazy Susan cabinet you will only need the following tools:

  • A small rubber mallet

  • A Phillips No 2 screwdriver or similar sized drill screwdriver attachment. If using a drill, have it set to its lowest speed, especially when tightening lock nuts.

Begin by removing all the contents of the pre-packed Lazy Susan cabinet box. Keep all the cam screws, dowels and other screws separate from the wooden framework and other pieces. By keeping everything neat and tidy before you begin, it is far easier to find each relevant piece when you need it during the construction process.

Start by taking all the cams and dowels and place them in their appropriate spaces in every part of the wooden framework of the Lazy Susan cabinet. Each one has a purpose drilled hole in which they will fit perfectly, and it is easy to see exactly where they need to go. With the locking mechanisms, ensure that they are set correctly. These vital pieces provide rigidity for the whole structure once they are locked. For them to lock in the correct fashion, they must be placed with arrows pointing in the direction from which the cams will be installed from, allowing everything to lock into place once turned.

To start, you will need a large area to work in with a flat surface, although a good sized table should suffice. Cover the table with either thick newspaper or a blanket beforehand to prevent any damage or surface scratches.

Begin construction of the Lazy Susan cabinet by placing one of the sides of the cabinet on the flat surface with cams and dowels facing upwards. Now attach the bottom section of the cabinet, tap into place with a mallet and tighten each corresponding lock nut. This unique locking mechanism only requires half a turn to be secured properly. It is very easy to crack the wood if forced too far and this will affect the rigidity of the piece. The bottom section of the cabinet is easily identifiable as it has a circular structure attached to it.

Now place the corresponding panel on the opposite side in the same way, locking it into place once a snug fit has been achieved by tapping it into place. Connect the two panels together with the smaller back piece which can be tapped into place using the mallet before locking. Install the front section by sliding it into the relevant grooves found on the side panels. Install the last remaining piece which fits above the diagonal panel, tapping it into place and then locking to secure rigidity. Install the toe kick and lock once it is lined up correctly.

Now onto the installation of the Lazy Susan.

Begin by screwing the steel turning mechanism to the shelf left over for the Lazy Susan. You can use the pre-drilled holes and screws provided. Screw the “pie” piece to the underneath of the turning mechanism using the guide holes found on the backside of the shelf.

Finally, install the Lazy Susan shelf into the framework using the pre-drilled holes and screws provided.

Congratulations, your Lazy Susan kitchen cabinet is complete!
