To assemble the base wine cabinet you will only need the following tools:
-
A small rubber mallet
-
A Phillips No 2 screwdriver or similar sized drill screwdriver attachment. If using a drill, have it set to its lowest speed, especially when tightening lock nuts.
Begin by removing all the contents of the pre-packed base wine cabinet box. Keep the dowels, cam screws and other screws separate from the wood framework, diamond latticed wood inlay (of which there are two), bottom panel and toe-kick panel. This makes it easier to find the relevant pieces when you need them.
Now take all the cams and dowels and place them in their appropriate spaces in every part of the wooden framework of the base wine cabinet. Each one has a purpose drilled hole in which they will fit perfectly. It is important to ensure that all locking mechanisms are set correctly as once locked, the wine cabinet will remain rigid. For them to lock in the correct fashion, they must be installed with arrows pointing in the direction from which the cams will be installed from.
Now take one side of the wine cabinet and place it on a large, flat surface such as a kitchen table. Cover the table with either thick newspaper or a blanket beforehand to prevent any damage or surface scratches.
Ensure that all the cams and dowels are facing upwards at this point. Now take the top, middle and lower wood sections and attach them to the side of the wine cabinet by inserting them into the relevant cams and dowels. It is imperative to ensure everything aligns correctly as this first part of the wine cabinet construction provides rigidity. Use the rubber mallet to tap them gently into place once you have lined them up. Now tighten each relevant lock nut. Remember, this unique locking mechanism only requires half a turn to ensure a proper lock. Do not force them any further than this. Take the back panel of the cabinet and slide it into place making sure it all aligns correctly for a tight fit. See to it that you install it with the finished section on the outside, not the inside, an easy mistake to make. Tap into place with the mallet for a snug fit.
Now take the rear diamond latticed wood panel and move it into place at the rear of the framework. This will hold the wine bottles at the back of the wine cabinet. This just slides in easily for a tight fit, and no other form of attachment is necessary.
Install the bottom wooden section and toe kick panel and lock into place once lined up correctly. Finally, install the front diamond latticed wood panel and gently tap into place using the mallet. Make sure to lock all remaining cams with a half turn on your Number 2 Phillips screwdriver. Before you do this, gently tap all dowel connections with the mallet to ensure a proper fit with no gaps between each piece of wood.
Congratulations, your base wine kitchen cabinet is complete!
