How To: Install Doors on All of Our Cabinets

Cabinetry doors provide your kitchen with a face. And it is considered by experts as one of the easiest ways to give your kitchen a facelift without breaking the bank.

If you have decided to remodel on a budget and have installed our premade cabinets, then it is important that you install the doors correctly.

It is recommended that you install the doors for all our cabinets after you have assembled the cabinets successfully.

It becomes easier to install the doors and also, you will need an additional tool which you have not used earlier during kitchen cabinet installation.

The Tools

To begin with the door installation, remove all the doors from the cabinet box and keep them face down on your work area. Since all the doors are of the same dimensions, labelling them is not mandatory during first time installation.

Keep a #2 Philips Screwdriver and a drill with a 1/16th bit handy with you for installing the hinges on the door.

It is also recommended that you create a template piece that helps you locate the baseplate holes and install the hinges in the exact places for all the doors. This prevents uneven doors and also makes the job a lot easier. Moreover, if you wish to release the doors from the cabinet, it can be done with a single screw and the hinges will retain their settings when you reattach them.

Template pieces can also be purchased online.

The Installation

Keep the doors face down and install the hinges in the predrilled holes with the drill and the Philips Screwdriver. You can also use a square to align the position of the hinge arm ensuring that it is perpendicular to the door. Once the hinges are correctly positioned, it is now time to install them on the doors.

Use the template to predrill the holes in the exact position for all the hinges. Take as much time as you’d want at this stage of the installation. Because this is the most important part of the process.

Now install the upper hinges first because it becomes easier to handle the doors and then proceed with installing the lower ones.

If you feel that the installation is not correct, then you can always rotate the side screws to adjust the doors towards the left or right and the center screw to move it up and down.

To move the doors in or out, adjust the back screw.

The next step is to install the handles or door knobs on the doors which is a very simple task. Similar to the door installation, it is recommended that you use a template to locate the precise position.  It is a standard practice to line up the door knob with the top part of the bottom door rail.

If you are not sure about where to position the knobs, you can use a temporary adhesive and try out various positions.

That’s it. Installing our cabinet doors is extremely easy. Hope you enjoyed it.
