Many of us don’t even know where to start when it comes to renovating our floors. What are the costs associated in doing such a project? We are about to answer all of your questions in this blog and give you 3 important costs to consider when updating the floors in your house.
Carpet
For those of you carpet lovers out there who love feeling that cushion under-padding when you walk from room to room, make sure to budget $3 to $4 per square foot for the carpet itself and additional $2 (give or take) per square foot for installation. Do your research beforehand as there are many boutique carpet factories out there as well as many excellent liquidation centers that often discount their prices down very low due to overstock. After all, who really wants to pay for designer carpet anyways, right?
Vinyl
Before you have an awful flashback to the tacky vinyl floors in your Grandma’s dated kitchen, let us change your mind about vinyl all together! Vinyl floors are totally back in style now and are perfect for floor renos on a budget. Did we mention that unlike wood floors, vinyl is totally waterproof making them super easy to clean and maintain? You can plan to pay $2 – $5 per square foot in material and an additional $2 to $3 in labour. Vinyl is perfectly ideal for laundry rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. Did we mention they are spill-proof and waterproof?
Tile
If you’re looking for a step up from vinyl and carpet, tile may be just what you need to spruce up your kitchen, bathroom, hallway or laundry room. Keep in mind that with tile comes higher costs, therefore higher budgets too. Prices vary depending on the type of tile you are looking to install for example, stone, porcelain, ceramic etc. all come with different price tags. If you have a big budget, then budgeting for your dream natural stone bathroom may be for you, just make sure you have no problem paying $16 per square foot plus around $10 per square foot to install it too. If you still want the tile look but don’t want to break the bank, take a look at some man-made tiles such as porcelain.
